Fire under the ice Fire under the Ice!
1st Prize Tahitian Pearl Trophy Design Award

254 carat blue Topaz with 25 Tahiti Cultured Pearls and Fine Silver.

Awarded first prize at the International Tahiti Pearl Design Award this exceptional designer necklace balances 25 large Tahitian cultured pearls with the coolness of a large Topaz set on a sterling silver block. The tension and harmony is held in perfect balance as the crystal clear feeling of water is refracted from the pure silver back throughout the Topaz giving one the feeling of water lapping against the shore. The international panel of judges went on to publish that the master goldsmith-Claudia Baetge's eye for detail was bold and outstanding and that her prize winning work titled, 'Fire under the Ice' was considered "most exceptional" and one of the "Tahiti Design Awards" best works of jewellery art to date.

This large yellow-silver South Sea pearl is bound with a stunning natural Brazilian Rio Grande do Sul Citrine. The reef and beyond The Reef and Beyond
Gold mantle and necklace with an Australian Bolder Opal

The simplicity yet boldness of Claudia Baetge's jewellery designs have inspired goldsmiths the world over. The necklace seen here was inspired by a flight over the Australian Great Barrier Reef where the goldsmith was filmed by an Australian television network in a film about the relationship between People and Stones. This stunning necklace titled: 'The Reef and Beyond' emphases an almost symbolic form where the reef meets the continent. A top royal blue to torques green bolder opal of excellent quality represents the reef and is cradled in a gold mantle through which runs four individual gold necklaces emphasising the outline of the sand, beach and continent.

Message in a bottle by the goldsmith Claudia Baetge Message in a Bottle / Amphore
Duran Glass, Pearls, Sterling Silver and
Carnelian Stone

Among the many Claudia Baetge winning prizes and awards was this entry into The Mineralien Prize of Germany. This elegant yet complex designed piece of jewellery incorporates many materials that are all very different in nature. The arrangement is rather sleek in its form and reflects on beauty, frailty, rhythm, complexity and of a fragile glass vessel that encapsulates an historic piece of carnelian stone from the early Bronze Age. The flask is made of hand blown Duran Glass and protects the Carnelian stone. Spacers around the glass help to suspend and keep the Chinese pearl necklace at a distance from the glass, thereby creating emphasis for the carnelian to flourish. This prize winning work was inspired by the metamorphic vessels that were made in the early Bronze Age.
